H.E.L.P.S. is a vision inspired organization that offers support to women ex-offenders (parolees), and to at risk children. It is the result of a grassroots ministry called God's Angel. God's Angel established by Mrs. Gazella Kirk, began in April of 2003 when her employer, Mr. Joseph Curtiss, opened a post office box at her request. God's Angel provided encouragement cards and Bibles to both male and female inmates. It quickly grew to the point where inmates began to request cards and Bibles for cell mates, their children and their parents. In addition, most requested to remain in contact with God's Angel after their release. While continuing to send encouraging cards to inmates through God's Angel, Mrs. Kirk then realized there was an additional need and was given the vision for Higher Education and Life Planning Services (H.E.L.P.S.)
H. E. L. P. S. is a nonprofit service corporation operated by a group of concerned citizens who recognize and believe that many of the men and women in the penal system have learned from their experience and deserve a second chance. We want to help those individuals return to society and become productive, law abiding citizens. We further recognize the plight of those children who are victims of their parent’s indiscretions. We hope to provide them with the support they need to overcome the adversity caused by the circumstances of their parents.
For the parolee, we offer housing and job location assistance, education, and life planning skills. For the at risk children, we offer educational assistance and mentoring services.
